If we compare our reaction to hunger and starvation resulting from a lack of food and water or love, we see the similarities. The anxiety, the stress, the anger and even the weakness caused by being deprived of either the tangible/visible nourishments versus the ‘not yet tangible/visible’ nourishment of love, are the same. To hunger for love, to feel deprived of love then implies that a human being is “malnourished”.

The consequences of our hunger for love are everywhere. This malnourishment breaks down both our physical health and our ability to cope with emotional issues. Our relationships suffer, as does our ability and perseverance to reach our goals and our ability to make sound decisions. The hope we need to thrive in life erodes.

One of my colleagues asked why people keep making the same mistakes in life. Why can’t they stay with exercising or a diet, bring their A-game to a job, continue to choose the wrong relationships or invest more time in their own personal growth? The answer is, because they do not love themselves sufficiently. Their physical, mental and emotional states are too weak from being “malnourished”, forcing them to make choices that are ‘easier lifts’ in the short run, but damaging in the long run. (audio/video)
