Your Marriage: How Healthy is It?

All married couples remember standing at the altar and saying their heartfelt marriage vows. Each couple is certain at that moment that their marriage will be a success, full of joy and happiness. After all we marry a person we love and who loves us so much that they are willing to spend the rest of their lives with us. What could possibly go wrong?

The Reality: 50% get divorced and half of those who stay married are afraid to leave for various reasons.
What are the early warning signs that may signal trouble down the line? Read more on marriage awareness...

Your Role in a Happy Marriage

I invite you to ask your spouse 3 questions:

1) Are you happy with yourself and your life?

2) Are you happy with the marriage?

3) Are you happy with me?

Often we assume that someone will tell us if they’re having a serious problem. Big mistake. People in general, including our spouses, don’t want to burden us with their emotional issues, especially if they are not good at communicating and can’t see a way to resolve it. Awareness

Do you know if your spouse is happy with him or herself? When was the last time you had a conversation about how they feel?  Are you interested in helping them feel better about themselves? Do you know how your spouse feels about you? When was the last time you had a conversation about how they felt about you?  Are you interested in helping them feel better about you?

Do you know how you truly feel about yourself? How you feel about your marriage?

There’s no question that it is easier to talk about the weather, problems with the kids, or a lousy boss at work than our own feelings about ourselves, our spouse, or our marriage. But these conversations about other issues don’t help develop your awareness in the crucial area of your marriage. Read more on marriage awareness...

Exercises to develop Awareness

The first place to help us become more aware is by focusing on our body. It is the source of the signals that inform us about how we being treated by others. The best place to start developing our awareness of our body’s signals, so we can feel if someone’s behavior is unloving toward us, is with our breath. We all breathe…but do it unconsciously. We don’t pay attention to it. Do you take full breaths? Close your eye and take a breath. Pay close attention to how far down in your body your breath travels. Does it stop at the top of your chest? Do you feel your rib cage expanding? Is it comfortable to breathe so deep that even your belly expands?

Most of us take shallow breaths that do not provide the ideal amount of energy. Do the exercise a few times, each time following your breath down into your body. In the next few days become aware of just how often and how deeply you breathe. Read more on marriage awareness...
