The Life Blood of a Great Marriage is Communication

It is possible to receive (hear) even the most difficult communication without getting defensive—if you decide that the health of your relationship is more important than whether you are right or wrong.

When we feel hurt or attacked, or disrespected, or not appreciated, it is a very hard thing to listen to. And yet mastering this skill, not taking any communication personally, can enhance a marriage far beyond what roses or gifts or sex can do. Read more on how to enhance your marriage relationship...

Communication with loved ones

The following are excerpts from Stefan Deutsch’s forthcoming book – I Know You Love Me…..

We are all proficient at being able to talk about the weather or good news. Saying something pleasant, hearing something pleasant, responding to something pleasant is easy. When we talk about the need to communicate we’re talking about difficult moments and difficult issues. The times we feel hurt or another feels we hurt them. How well we handle these moments is the key to being an effective person, to having close relationships.

  1. Communicate to the loving part within others.
  2. Purpose of each communication – to inspire, enroll, and bring your spouse closer to you
  3. Requires awareness, vision and unconditional behavior to work.
  4. The most active, hopeful, and energizing of the three facilities.
  5. Gives you the sense of control over relationship dynamics
  6. Requires the ability to hear every word another is saying

One of the things that gets in the way of our ability to communicate is that ‘little voice’ in our heads that is always talking. Have you ever stopped and really listened to it? Is it you or someone else talking? Is it always giving you good advice or is it only hoping to defend you from pain? How many times has it misled you? Read more on communication...
